Two nights in Rome

Rome – The capital of Italy and home to the Vatican City. This city is steeped in history and culture known for its ruins such as the colosseum and roman forum, as well as iconic landmarks like the Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps. Because of its rich history, delicious cuisine and vibrant atmosphere it is a very popular destinations among tourists from around the world.

Arrival

We arrived by car in the early evening, checked into our accommodation, and headed out to dinner and for a nice evening walk. On our walk we passed the Piazza San Pietro giving you a spectacular view of the Basilica Papale di San Pietro. We ended up in a cute restaurant, right next to the Vatican City called Vinsanto. We had a nice dinner but then went to sleep early as we started the next day in the morning hours.

Day 1

Rise and shine – and with that we mean at about 5:30 am if you want to be the first at the Trevi Fountain. We arrived at the Trevi Fountain at around 6:30 am and guess what we were already not the first ones there. We still managed to get a nice picture without people on it.

We then continued to venture to the Spanish steps at around 7:30 am which luckily gave us time to take pictures without any one on it as you can see below. Patience does pay off as we took many pictures but did manage to get some nice shots just from us.

We went back to the Trevi Fountain at around 8 am and it is crazy that it was literally already packed with people at this time of the day. We decided to go to this cute cafe called l’antic forno to grab some breakfast while enjoying the view of the fountain.

We then continued to see the Pantheon, then further to the monument of Vittorio Emanuele II.

Our next stop was the Colosseum, had bought tickets on getyourguide.com to be able to skip the line and go inside directly. There are different time slots you can book and then you have a given amount of time to enter into the colosseum. We definitely recommend this as otherwise you will be standing in the queue for a long time especially in the heat of Italian summers, that is not nice.

Our favorite part of Rome was definitely our evening watching the sunset in a beautiful rooftop terrace in the middle of Rome. We honestly found this by accident but it was the best accidental find we ever had. You can order drinks, with which as per usual in italy you will receive some little snacks such as olives, chips and nuts we were delicious. The place is called the Divinity restaurant and lounge bar in The Pantheon Hotel. This was the best way to end our time in Rome. The next morning we headed off to our next adventure -> the famous place called Positano at the Amalfi Coast.
