Arriving in Florence

Florence has an airport that you can fly into, or you can arrive by train depending on where you come from. We arrived by car as we started our Italy trip in Verona and Florence was our next stop.

Day 1

We arrived in the afternoon, so we checked into our accommodation which was called Camplus Firenze. We always chose an accommodation which included or offered car park as we were on our road trip through Italy. After checking out our room which was clean, well sized and modern we headed out and went on a first stroll through the city centre to get an overview.

We started at Piazza Santa Maria Novella which makes for a beautiful photo spot as you can see in the picture below. We then continued walking to the famous Duomo of Florence called Cathedral di Santa Maria dei Fiore. This Cathedral is absolutely stunning from the size to the architecture it is breathtaking.

We stopped for dinner at Il Bottegone, this restaurant is right next to the Cathedral and because it was July we sat outside, dining while admiring the the cathedral. And it was not as expensive as you might think. After dinner we still went for an evening stroll because the atmosphere in the city was just so amazing.

Day 2

We opted to get breakfast at a little cute cafe in the city centre called Vecchio Forno which means (Old Oven). This is a super cute typical Italian cafe, which sells everything from sweet croissants and pastries to Italians well known foccacia and pizza, so this is a must breakfast spot when you visit Florence.

We then went for another stroll through the city because that in our opinion is just the best way to explore a city. We went back to the famous cathedral as the night before it was already pretty dark, although we recommend that if you want a nice picture with no people, you either get up super early and arrive at 6am or you do it in the evening but the light won’t be as good.

We wanted to go see the famous Davide sculpture of Michelangelo, but the queue to get a ticket or even inside to see it was so ridiculously long and sun was burning hot as it was midday that we opted to keep going. So if you’d like to see it on your trip make sure to prebook tickets.

We had dinner at a restaurant called Affé di Bacco, which is a super nice Italian pizzeria. We chose this location on purpose even though it is a bit outside of the city centre because we wanted to head to a specific spot afterwards for the sunset.

Our favorite part of our time in Florence

We ended this beautiful day watching the sun, set over Florence. It is called Piazzale Michelangelo and sadly not a secret spot for watching a beautiful sunset so we were not the only ones. But regardless of the masses of people it was still totally worth it and we did manage to get a picture without any people.

The next morning we continued our roadtrip south and drove to Rome, we drove through the beautiful tuscan landscape so if you can take a car from here to Rome it is definitely worth it.
